Wellington faces a better future, says the town mayor.
This is thanks to growing investment in the town and the organisations working to make it a better place to live.
Councillor Denis Allen paid tribute to the voluntary organisations and people who run social groups during his mayor’s report to the annual town meeting last week.
He said the council’s year had focused on promoting and planning for the regeneration of Wellington.
This included refurbishing the children’s play area at Bowring Park, supporting the formation of a transport hub by moving the bus station and taxi rank next to the railway station and supporting the creation of a new civic centre and library.
Other achievements included working with partners to form the Wrekin Forest Partnership to preserve the woodland and the Wrekin Museum Partnership to complement exisiting facilities in the area.
He said: “The development of a sports village between Wrekin College and AFC Telford must benefit Wellington as long as good routes in the town are developed.”
Councillor Allen added: “Voluntary organisations such as H2A (who provide among other things Sounds in the Square), the Civic Society, All Friends Around the Wrekin, church groups, Wellington Town Band, Air and Army Cadets, Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Brownies and many more contain the good, decent people who are working to make Wellington a better place to live.
“I have met them, I am impressed with them and I am sure that Wellington’s future is safe in their hands.”
