“It’s been a terrific year,” says the outgoing Mayor of Telford & Wrekin, as he looks back on his time in office.

“It’s been a terrific year,” says the outgoing Mayor of Telford & Wrekin, as he looks back on his time in office.

Councillor Miles Hosken is due to hand over his mayoral chain on May 22 when his successor will be elected.

Councillor Hosken told the Journal he was “overjoyed” to have had the opportunity to represent the people of Telford.

“I am absolutely over the moon that I was voted in to carry out my duties as Mayor of Telford and I’ve met so many wonderful people as a result,” he said.

Dignity

“I believe I’ve carried out my duties with great dignity and respect for the people and I can quite honestly say that the events over the past year have been terrific.

“I’ve been self employed in Wellington for over 40 years and I’ve always enjoyed my time here, but my last year as the Mayor of Telford has been quite extraordinary.”

The mayor also gave a special mention to youngsters in the borough.

“The youngsters I’ve met in schools, academies and sports clubs have been truly wonderful.

“I think we have a future of quality with the young people of Telford and they really are a credit to the borough.”

A series of final fundraising events are set to take place in May in aid of Councillor Hosken’s Mayoral charity appeal.

A Spring Spectacular concert will take place on May 17 at the Enginuity museum in Coalbrookdale, Ironbridge.

Tickets, £5, are available from Miles Ladies & Gents Outfitters, New Street, Wellington.

There will also be a Wrekin Barrel Race on May 18. Teams of up to four people will be competing to get a full nine gallon barrel from the bottom of the Wrekin to the top.

It is £20 for each team to enter and the prize for the fastest team is £100.

Councillor Hosken added: “These are rather exciting events and, if successful, they will be the end of a wonderful year.”
