Wrekin College gets outstanding Ofsted report

Wrekin College in Wellington has been rated outstanding by the Office for Standards in Education for the way it helps children achieve well and enjoy what they do.

Wrekin College in Wellington has been rated outstanding by the Office for Standards in Education for the way it helps children achieve well and enjoy what they do.

The school for boys and girls aged 11 to 18 was visited by an Ofsted inspecting team on February 29.

They were looking at how the school rates in terms of pupil welfare during their four day visit.

Overall, inspectors rated the college, which caters for 467 pupils, as good.

Wellbeing

Report authors Jackie Callaghan and Trevor Hall said: “Pupils receive care that actively promotes their wellbeing and health.

“The school is proactive in creating a culture that does not tolerate bullying and provides good support to all pupils.

“Pupils confirm that bullying is not an issue within the school and that staff act on any information that bullying might be taking place.

“Pupils receive outstanding support when they need it. Pupils live in a school that values both the spiritual and moral development of each person, and fosters supportive and caring relationships.

Promoted

“Pupils’ well-being is positively promoted as they are each allocated a tutor to ensure their continuing care and educational needs are met.”

Good ratings were also achieved for helping children to be healthy, protecting children from harm and neglect, helping children make a positive contribution, organisation

Stella Clarke, Deputy Head Pastoral, welcomed Ofsted’s findings.

She said: “We were judged according to various outcomes and we achieved the top two ratings throughout.

“We are very very pleased with the report and the remarks made by the inspecting team.”
