Arson warning in play for pupils

Telford schools are being urged to sign up for a free theatre visit in July to teach pupils about the consequences of arson.

Arson About by Mark Wheeller is a play about a typical incident which culminates in tragedy performed by Stopwatch Theatre which aims to deter arson attacks.

Telford school buildings are at risk from arson, warned Lynn Hosking, Youth Officer with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service which is backing the theatre performance.

“We are aware that some schools in the county serve an area with a high incidence of deliberate fires and we want the support of teachers to put on this important play.”

The 45 minute play targeted at all year 8 pupils vividly demonstrates how “a bit of fun” with fire can easily escalate into a tragedy and is immediately followed by a 35 minute workshop to discuss the performance and the consequences of people’s actions.

Teachers should contact Lynn Hosking at Shrewsbury fire HQ on 01743 260 200 to book the show which is being performed in Shropshire from July 7 through to July 11. For more information visit www.wmarsontaskforce.gov.uk
