A new multi-million development creating an extra floor and scores of jobs has been formally opened at Asda in Donnington Wood.
Ice hockey star of the future, Saffron Allen, 13, was chosen to cut the ribbon to officially open the mezzanine.
Saffron, of Broseley, is being supported by Asda with a £500 annual bursary until the summer of 2013.
The £12m, 19,500 sq ft extension has seen the size of the store increase in size by about a half.
Work started on January 7 on the development and contractors are officially due to hand over on June 16.
Between 30 and 40 extra staff were recruited through the mezzanine being built.
A home delivery service is due to be launched in July, with the creation of 30 jobs, most of which have already been filled.
The mezzanine with a travelater has meant the store can have a wider range of products, including in the George clothing section, which has now expanded.
The sound and vision department will also now be upstairs.
Events coordinator, Dave Simmons, said: “As far as George was concerned we were only carrying a small range of clothing.
“Now we have got twice the linear footage we had previously, which has unabled us to increase the range right across from kids, men’s and ladies.”
