A scheme to ban drunken hooligans from pubs in Telford has been hailed a success after more than 30 yobs were banned from licensed premises.
The Three Strikes and You’re Out scheme was launched in November 2006 in Oakengates to halt booze-fuelled violence.
Since the launch 31 men and women have been handed red cards banning them from all pubs and clubs following on from yellow card warnings.
One of the people given a red card was also given an anti-social behaviour order.
Police said a number of other troublemakers were currently at risk of being banned after they were given yellow cards.
The scheme was such a success in Oakengates the scheme was rolled out across the borough to include Wellington, Dawley and Madeley.
The first strike is given through a yellow card when police find an offender causing problems.
If the same troublemaker falls into the hands of the police for a second time within a three-month period they are given a red card - their second strike.
The red card bans the individual from all pubs and clubs taking part in the scheme for six months. If the person is found causing problems for a third time, he/she will be targeted for either a post conviction Anti-Social Behaviour Order or full Anti-Social Behaviour Order.
