Mrs Dorothy Vickers from Park Street, Wellington, has been delivering meals-on-wheels for the WRVS in the town for the past 21 years - and her devotion to the cause was rewarded recently when she attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace and was introduced to The Queen.
It is 70 years since the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service was founded and following a celebratory get-together, Mrs Vickers was a member of a small group of WRVS helpers who went to the palace.
Mrs Vickers, who is pictured outside the palace, told The Journal that the WRVS was always on the look-out for helpers and anyone interested should contact Kevin O’Dwyer on 260493.
