The story of the 16lbs barbel, reported recently has stirred up a lot of interest from local barbel anglers.
As some anglers have been full of doubt lately this will bring relief to a lot of them.
T.A.A bailiff, Jason Thomas, certainly gets along the river banks and has now taken on the Avenue section at Dale End.
I was also pleased to hear from social services that the young lady who won the disabled fishing festival at Apley on June 14 is keen to carry on fishing so I have put them in touch with the only junior section I know, Lilco AC.
Surely this means the festival is always a success.

The Newport Advertiser Junior Event takes place on the Newport Canal on Saturday, August 9. There will be three age groups on the day: Under 8’s, Under 12’s and Under 16’s.
You can get an application form at your local tackle shop. Draw is at 8.15am, fish 9am to 12 noon. A presentation will follow at the Baptist Church, Water Lane.
