Let’s keep sport for everyone says MP

A Telford MP is calling for local people to blow the whistle on discrimination in sport.

David Wright is backing England coach, Fabio Capello and the Football Association and is calling on community groups in Telford to apply for grants to use sport to tackle discrimination and exclusion.

The cash is part of the One Game, One Community scheme which enables groups to use football to help tackle social exclusion.

The grants offer a cash sum of up to £1K and are being made available to groups across Britain as part of the forthcoming One Game, One Community weeks of action which runs from October 16 to 28.

David Wright MP said: “Football is our biggest game and I am pleased that the FA recognise the important role it can play in ending discrimination and exclusion.

“These grants will help organisations such as community and grassroots football groups, schools and tenants associations who can apply for work with groups such as young people, ethnic minorities, football fans, estates-based projects, gypsies and travellers, and refugees and asylum seekers.

“The weeks of action will take place between October 16 and 28 in a unique coming together of professional football, the grassroots game and community groups in a celebration of the contribution made to football by ethnic minorities and other groups often on the margins.”

England coach Fabio Capello has also offered his support.

”The One Game, One Community weeks of action, for me, epitomises all that is good about football,” he said.

“Diversity, inclusion, harmony and respect. Our ability to break boundaries should never be underestimated.”

Full information on applying for a grant is available online at www.kickitout.org or by contacting Mr Wright’s constituency office on (01952) 507747.
