Bucks may ring the changes after frustrating home draw

The Bucks management are unsurprisingly looking at possible changes for Saturday’s trip to Gateshead in the wake of a pretty dismal goalless draw at home against struggling Fleetwood Town.

Despite having plenty of possession, and the best of the play, the Bucks were simply not able to capitalise on their advantages and goals eluded them, largely because they did not make enough of their chances.

Result: A few boos around the terraces and a general air of frustration that AFC Telford United are again failing to live up to their (often well justified) reputation.

Fleetwood had let in 11 goals in five away games before arriving in Telford and went away happy that they had bagged a point.

Credit must go the visitors who, despite now only winning one from the first eight, were not afraid to push forward and restricted Telford to a handful of real opportunities - but that should have counted for nowt when the Bucks were awarded a second half penalty.

Unfortunately, Terry Fearns’ shot was saved, putting his place in the line up under extra pressure. Top scorer, he has now failed to register in his last seven appearances.

The Bucks may still have stolen the points in the 82nd minute when Lee Moore raced forward with Jarred Stevens and Steve Jagielka unmarked in support.

Moore waited too long, though, and Stevens was just a matter of inches offside by the time he was played through,

Fleetwood had the first chance of the game on six minutes when captain Jamie Milligan’s curled effort from the edge of the area was saved by an acrobatic Ryan Young.

Telford had a few good efforts and should really hav gone into interval ahead when Moore’s pace earned a late corner.

Martyn Naylor’s setpiece found Jamie Vermiglio, he scuffed his effort but still found Andy Brown, but the striker also botched his shot.

The Bucks made a lively start to the second period and on 58 minutes came the decisive moment, Ashton Bayliss conceding the penalty for climbing on Brown.

Assistant manager Larry Chambers hinted later that there may be changes with young Stevens possibly set for the starting line-up.

l The Bucks are drawn at home to Southern League Premier Corby Town in the FA Cup on September 27.
