Telford’s paralymic silver medallist, Mickey Bushell, is among the shortlisted nominees for this year’s county sports awards.
Mickey, from Ketley Bank, a sports student at Telford College of Arts and Technology, has been nominated in the Sportsperson of the Year category alongside Bridgnorth’s Bethan Partridge and Shaun Rigby from Overdale.
Adrian Collins of Shifnal, Tina Owen from Shrewsbury, and Anne Staples of Trench, are all short listed for the Volunteer of the Year award for their outstanding level of dedication to their sports and clubs.
Up for the Young Leader of the Year award are Martin Brown from Randlay, Amy Bywater of Burford and Rachel Massie from Gnosall, who are said to have shown incredible levels of commitment to their own personal development and to sport as a whole.
The annual awards ceremony,organised by Energize Shropshire,Telford & Wrekin, the county’s sports partnership, in association with Paycare, takes place on October 16 at the Prostar Stadium in Shrewsbury.
Chris Child, Energize partnership manager, said: “The standard of the nominees was exceptionally high and reducing the numbers down to three for each category was very difficult.

“Although we can only acknowledge a small percentage of the people working or volunteering in sport and physical activity at the awards, we know that there are many people doing fantastic work.”

Volunteer of the Year, Adrian Collins (Shifnal Cricket Club), Anne Staples (Wellinginton Swimming Club), Tina Owen (netball).
Sportsperson of the Year. Bethan Partridge, Michey Bushell, Shaun Rigby.
Young Leader of the Year. Amy Bywater, Martin Brown, Rachel Massie.
Club of the Year. Oswestry Olympians, Tibberton Netball Club, Wrekin Riders BMX Club.
Health Improvement Through Physical Activity. Exercise for All (Telford & Wrekin Primary Care Trust),Walkabout Wrekin (Telford & Wrekin Council and Primary Care Trust), Yvonne Richardson and Marion Shepard (Everyday Swim).
Project of the Year. Stronger Mind and Body (Bishop’s Castle Lawn Tennis Club),Exercise for All (Telford & Wrekin Primary Care Trust), Football Inclusion (Telford & Wrekin Council).
Guest speaker at the ceremony will be Olympic gold medallist, Dame Mary Peters.
