An American company is setting up its first European base in Telford - thanks to the attraction of the borough’s new railfreight terminal.
At least seven new jobs are being created by Cables to Go, a leading manufacturer of computer and audio-video cables based in Moraine, Ohio.
The firm is opening a sales, marketing and warehouse base at Hortonwood.
And there could be “significantly” more jobs on the horizon if the new railfreight terminal at Donnington proves successful, bosses say.
Bill Diederich, president of Cables to Go, said: “We have a fledgling team in the market right now, and our goal is to expand that team significantly over the years, as we gain market share in England and the rest of Europe.”
Cables To Go chose Telford because of its central location and transport links at the heart of the UK, he added.
Seven people are currently employed at the 15,000 sq ft facility selling complete connectivity and cabling solutions to businesses across Europe.
Plans
The Telford facility currently has 1,100 products available, with plans to mirror the US product range offering more than 5,000 items.
The private firm employs 1,000 people in five countries worldwide and has revenues in excess of $100 million.
The decision to move to Telford followed a push by regional regeneration agency Advantage West Midlands (AWM) and Transforming Telford to attract overseas firms to town.
Bosses from AWM, which has an annual budget of more than £300 million, provided advice and support to Cables to Go supremos in the USA, providing information on property options, staff recruitment and European import regulations.
Robbie Beak, inward investment business project manager at AWM, said: “The approach taken by Cables to Go in its expansion into the UK is one of the most professional and well-organised we have come across - resulting in a brand new business in the West Midlands region, and creating skilled local jobs for Telford.”
