Literary festival’s success

This year’s Wellington Literary Festival has been hailed the biggest and best ever by organisers after more than 3,000 bookworms flocked to the month-long event.

The festival ended last Thursday with a talk from Guardian sketch writer and journalist Simon Hoggart.

Other speakers this year included BBC newsreader George Alagiah, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin author Louis de Bernieres and former footballer Ian Rush.

Meanwhile, the 35th Wellington Drama Festival is now underway, running until Saturday.

Three acts will be included in tonight’s programme with Tomorrow Productions presenting The Popman and Will the Real Jonathan Davies Please Stand Up while Green Room will present Mother Figure.
