Call over yobs

Telford MP David Wright has called upon authorities to crack down on anti-social behaviour in Sutton Hill after receiving over 100 complaints from residents.

Mr Wright said problems had been caused by drunken yobs gathering near the Sir Alexander Fleming School  and hurling abuse at parents and passers-by.

He has now called upon the police and Telford & Wrekin Council to take action against those who cause trouble in the area.

He said: “I carried out a major consultation exercise in Sutton Hill about street drinking just before Christmas and we have now had over a hundred responses from residents.

“I want to see progress on this immediately. Parents should be able to take their children to school without having to put up with abuse from the idiots involved.”

A spokesman for the West Mercia Police said they had already launched a campaign to tackle underage drinking in Sutton Hill.

Sergeant Louis Hylton from the South Telford Local Policing Team said: “The local policing teams are aware of concerns raised by some local residents about this issue.

“We are working with our partners to establish the exact nature of any problems there may be in the area and once this work is complete we will decide what, if any, action we should take to address these problems,” Sergeant Hylton added.
