Cash boost for games area plan

Youngsters in Ketley are set to get a £55,000 multi-use games area after a regeneration agency agreed to provide funding.

Parish councillors have submitted a planning application to Telford & Wrekin Council for the facility to built behind the Mauchak Restaurant on Holyhead Road.

Bosses from Housing and Communities Agency, formally known as English Partnerships, have agreed to fund the project and parish council members say they will help take care of it once installed.

Multi-use games areas are designed to be 20 metres by 12 metres, suitable for netball, football and other team games. There are also plans for more play equipment in the future.

A decision on the application will be given in the next few weeks.

Fund

Martin Young, chairman of Ketley Parish Council, said: “We have been in discussions with Housing and Communities Agency and they have agreed to fund the multi-use games area. It is probably going to cost in the region of either side of £55,000.”

John Preston, senior regeneration manager at Homes and Communities Agency, said: “We are very pleased to be able to assist in bringing forward this part of the proposed play area for Telford Millennium Community. Although the larger area has been delayed due to the slowdown in the housing market, it is good news that local children will have somewhere to play.”
