A multi-million pound housing development is being planned for Muxton close to Granville Country Park with more than 100 homes.
Officials from Morris, a West Midlands house builder, have announced proposals to create a £24.5 million development on the edge of the Granville Country Park.
The scheme, hoped to be off Marshbrook Way and Donnington Wood Way, plans to hold 144 units including apartments, mews and detached houses.
The homes will stretch across a 15 acre site and have been given an ‘English garden suburb’ design influenced from ‘Ironbridge period’ architecture.
Dave Hesson, regional managing director for Morris, said: “Times have generally been tough for the housing market of late, but we’re continuing to see a strong demand for quality, affordable family homes. As such, we plan to continue to undertake exciting new developments like the project in Muxton.
“This is one of the best sites to come out of Telford in the last few years.
“We’ve been selected to develop the site thanks to our reputation for building high quality, energy efficient properties which complement their surroundings and enhance the local area.”
A planning application for proposals has not yet been submitted.
Surrounded by open countryside the Muxton scheme will lie on the edge of a nature reserve.
On Tuesday night Telford & Wrekin Council gave approval for the park to be extended in their Cabinet meeting.
The park will now be known as the Granville Country Park Local Nature Reserve (LNR).
Pete Lambert, from Shropshire Wildlife Trust, said he would object if an application appeared.
He said it was important to keep green land in Telford.
He said: “We would probably object on the grounds that the area is a buffer.”
But Dennis Offland, chairman of the Friends of Granville Country Park, said the extra homes could benefit the park.
“It won’t effect the park at all it, it might get used more,” he said. “I don’t think it will do any damage.”
Morris bosses hope work on the development will start in spring 2010 and be completed within three years.
