Group vows to ’shine a spotlight’ on health care

Concerns over services at Princess Royal Hospital have been highlighted again this week and a local patients’ group is vowing to ‘shine the spotlight’ on Telford’s health and social care services.

Telford and Wrekin Link, an organisation representing patients and public in NHS and care service provision, are urgently calling people across the borough to come forward with their experiences of using these services.

Linda Seru, director of Telford and Wrekin Link, said: “There are a lot of issues around both health services and care at the moment.

“It is vital the local Link hears experiences from local people in order that we can influence how services move forward in the best way.

“We are keen to hear all experiences both good ones and bad ones.”

On Saturday the leader of the council, Andrew Eade, revealed he had written to the Royal Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Hospitals Trust’s chairman, Margaret Bamford, and its chief executive, Tom Taylor, with serious concerns over standards in the Telford Hospital.

He said: “The time has now come for us to say enough is enough. We can no longer stand back and let this borough’s hospital provision be slowly downgraded.

“We are and will continue to fight to protect our hospital and we need to see health services enhanced.”

A Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust spokesperson said improvements are already being put in place including improved triage in A&E and additional A&E nurses.

GP walk-in centres and health information hubs are also being planned for the summer.

“Our priority is to provide the best possible care we can with the resources available to us,” he said. “Our hospitals see thousands of patients every day, and the feedback we receive indicates that the majority of them are pleased with the care they receive.

“We are always grateful for the feedback we receive, good and bad, as this helps us to meet the expectations of local people.”
