A successful week for the Telford Raiders was capped in perfect fashion by the club’s junior sides.
The week started well for Raiders with confirmation of Matt Evans selection for the England Lionhearts squad to meet Wales in the opening game of the four nation’s tournament.
The game will be played at the home of Super Leagues Celtic Crusaders, Brewery Field, kick off is at 2.30pm and will prelude the Super League clash between the Crusaders and Wigan Warriors.
This was followed by the news that Telford will be heavily represented in the West Midlands Junior Squads. Telford will be represented by ten u12’s, nine u14’s, and twelve u16’s.
This is something the Raiders deserve huge kudos for. Youth development is clearly a high priority for the club, and it shows what can be achieved when you combine raw talent with committed, high quality coaching, and everyone involved with the Raiders can be proud of this achievement.
On Saturday Telford travelled to Redditch to take on the team directly above them in the Rugby League Conference.
The Redditch Ravens were eager for a victory to pull away from the Raiders leaving them stranded at the bottom of the table. Telford’s defence won the day for them as aggressive tackling, good line speed, restricted the Ravens field position. Tries from Tutt (x2) Matt Evans (x2), Faulkner, and Szehofner gave Raiders a vital 32 – 6 victory.
The win lifted Telford off the foot of the table, and they will be hoping they can use this win to spur them on to greater performances.
The week was concluded in fine fashion as the Raiders u12’s, 14’s, and 16’s, hosted the Birmingham Bulldogs. Telford’s u12’s pro duced an all round fantastic performance running out 50 – 0 winners.
Telford’s u14’s produced a similar display and a Man of the Match performance from Ross Mcginn helped the team on their way to a 44 – 4 victory.
Telford’s u16’s rounded off the day with their own convincing win, rounding off the weekend in fine fashion for the Raiders.
