A Telford painter and decorator is teeing himself up for a sunshine trip to Portugal after winning through to the finals of a national golf competition.
Mark Evans now has his eyes on the main prize after getting on the medals board at the sixth annual Golf Tour competition staged by a paint manufacturer.
Mark, from Priorslee, managed the third best scorecard when he played 18 holes in a Midlands regional round of the challenge, held at Moorhall, Sutton Coldfield. That won him a place in the final which is to be held in Penina, Portugal, from September 9-12.
He will be joined at the big play-off for the Dulux Decorator Centre Trophy by first and second place winners at the Sutton Coldfield event, husband and wife Vivian and Nigel Chatfield of St Leonard’s on Sea, East Sussex.
Mark said: “The Dulux Decorator Centres Golf Tour is a fantastic opportunity for painters and decorators to compete against other professionals from around the UK.
“I had a wonderful day and thoroughly enjoyed the evening presentation dinner. I still can’t believe I actually won. I just hope I can hit similar shots in Portugal!”
Spokeswoman for the organisers Jo Chapman said: “It is amazing that in its sixth year this exclusive event is as popular as ever, with all of the ten events fully subscribed.
“Every one of the 36 painters and decorators who took part seemed to have a great day out and played some really good golf. The standard definitely appears to be getting higher each year.
“I’d like to commend the good sportsmanship shown by all the competitors and I wish Mark, Vivian and Nigel all the very best for the final.”
