Pair share top prize for patient care

Two Telford hospital ward workers have been named Leader of the Year in recognition for improved patient care at the Princess Royal Hospital.

Ward managers Ann Allsop and Sarah Kirk have been named joint winners of the Leader of the Year Award 2009 run by The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.

The pair were presented with a winner’s certificate, £200 prize for their department and a special dinner, bed and breakfast break at the Telford Golf and Spa Hotel.

The prizes were given at an awards ceremony held at the Shropshire Education and Conference Centre last week.

Mrs Kirk said: “We are delighted that we have won. It was really nice just to have been nominated, never mind anything else.”

Mrs Allsop said: “We have included everyone in our team all along and we have had their support the whole time. This award is a result of all the hard work that has been put in.”

The pair were given the title for working together to bring improvements to Ward 16 at  PRH in Telford.

They were also described as great role models for staff on the ward by ‘providing a shining example of how job sharing can work effectively’.

The annual Trust Awards celebrate the achievements of staff from The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
