A £1.8 million Telford centre created to provide facilities for youngsters with disabilities was completed this week.
Stepping Stones Centre, Malinslee, is a purpose built, child-friendly environment which brings together a number of services under one roof.
It is a joint initiative between NHS Telford and Wrekin and Telford & Wrekin Council.
Jo Banks, deputy director of specialist services for children and young people for NHS Telford and Wrekin, said: “This is a fantastic development for disabled children and young people who will now be receiving services from within the community.”
It is hoped Malinslee will be the new centre for the health assessment of children – a service currently taking place at Princess Royal Hospital’s Child Development Centre.
Stepping Stones will hold a number of services including audiology, child development centre, community paediatric team, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, sensory inclusion service and the disabled children’s team.
Councillor Stephen Burrell, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: “This is a fantastic new facility for children and young people with disabilities and additional needs in the borough and is a result of the productive partnership between Telford & Wrekin Council and NHS Telford and Wrekin.
“The council has an excellent disabled children’s team that has been nationally recognised by inspectors.
“It is very good news that they are moving to a location that makes them more open and accessible to the young people they are providing services and support for.”
