A Telford family has decided to beat the credit crunch by setting up a new animal business.
The family from Lincoln Hill, Ironbridge, struggling to find enough work in the current climate, has decided to pull together to form a cattery and dog grooming business.
Dad Steven Jones, who is a gardener, said: “I have managed to find some work but not enough.
“The problem is I have been looking for employment but it is very sparse.”
Mr Jones said his wife has short term employment and so they are planning to upgrade their garage and start a dog grooming business. They also want their gardens to house a cattery.
It is hoped the business could provide a holiday and pampering retreat for people’s pets.
Plans have been submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council and also include the widening of the driveway and access onto Lincoln Hill.
Mr Jones and his family moved to Telford from The Wirral and describe themselves as animal lovers.
They have two cats and two dogs and Mr Jones’ daughter is a dog groomer.
He said the plans are within a conservation area but he remains positive.
“I understand it is difficult to get approval,” he said. “But I understand Telford & Wrekin try to encourage new businesses.”
Mr Jones has spoken with neighbours about his venture and he said they are happy with the plans.
It is hoped a decision will be made in October.
