Macca picture set to raise cash for Sands

A Wellington landlord will commemorate the fourth anniversary of the loss of his newborn son with a fundraising raffle this weekend.

Sam Gould, landlord of the Wrekin Inn,  has organised a beer and cider festival at which a memorabilia raffle will bring in cash for Sands, the Stillbirth and neonatal death charity.dscf0694.JPG

It is four years this weekend since Mr Gould lost his son Daniel, who was stillborn.

Mr Gould said: “I have experienced the pain of losing my first child Daniel through stillbirth, and wanted to give something back to Sands – they were immense, very helpful. This Saturday will be four years since we lost Daniel.”

The Wrekin Inn is no stranger to fundraisers, with beer festivals through to open mic nights pulling hundreds of punters through the doors.

So far the pub has raised nearly £500 for Sands and Help for Heroes.

Memorabilia auctions and raffles are being held at the pub every week.

This week, the stunning top lot is a framed, signed picture of Paul McCartney, along with a n Oasis signed microphone.

Last week, Tony McPhee from the Groundhogs presented a signed Oasis guitar to  winner, Andy Thomas, from Telford.

Mr Gould said he is looking forward to this weekend’s event, with the Badgers playing on Sunday and another band on Monday.

He said: “Over the last few months we have established ourselves as a wonderful music venue with our open mic night on Tuesdays and live bands on Sundays being focal points,” he said.

“Our real ales are causing a storm with my policy of rotating and changing our selection all the time. Variety is the deal here at the Wrekin.”
