Friends of Telford Town Park are hoping it will be third time lucky as they plan to re-apply for Village Green status for the ‘valuable area’.
After a summer of events at the park the Friends have decided to seek legal advice to protect the town arena from future builds.
John Pettman, chairman of the Friends of Telford Town Park, said they are looking to employ a solicitor to help them apply for protective status. He said previous applications have been thrown out twice before on ‘technicalities’ but he believes a solicitor will solve this.
“We are looking to apply for Village Green Status in Telford Town Park Arena,” he said. “We have done it twice before and it has been thrown out,
“The applications we had submitted were thrown out on a technicality. We are now getting professional help.
“It has been very frustrating over the years.
Mr Pettman said there were no plans for building work in the area but was keen to protect it for the future.
“It is incredibly valuable land. I don’t know of another large space in Telford. It is a valuable asset.
“Now people are starting to have concerts and a culture festival and it is used a lot every week.
“No one is building on it and there is nothing planned to be built on it at the moment. We are just looking at the long term so nothing can be built on it in the future.
“What we are trying to do is protect it for the long term.”
Mr Petton said he would be making a presentation to Hollinswood and Randlay Parish Council next Monday in a bid for funding.
Parish councillors will discuss the proposals when they meet at the Hollinswood Neighbourhood Centre at 7.30pm.
