A world famous Ironbridge pork pie is to feature at an annual harvest festival in Japan.
Eley’s of Ironbridge, who have been making their hand-raised pork pies to a family recipe for 40 years, will spend 10 days at the Barakura Harvest Festival, showcasing the pies.
Richard Eley, Ironbridge pork pie baron, and shop manager Mick Hill travel to Japan on October 4, where they will take part in the celebration of all things English.
Barakura English Garden is a totally authentic English garden in Japan, which opened in the summer of 1990, and has been visited by the Queen and Prince Charles. The owners regularly display at Chelsea Flower Show, and following this year’s display, they donated the exhibit to Trentham Gardens.
While working on the move, the directors visited Ironbridge, and tried one of Eley’s pork pies. They then contacted the shop and asked the owners to show the pie at next month’s event
Richard Eley said: “It is such compliment to be asked and a fantastic opportunity to showcase our pork pies on the world stage.
“During their Harvest Festival, we will show the people of Japan how we make our hand-raised pork pies - everything that is apart from our secret ingredient.”
