Journal reporter steps out to Style in the City

Hannah Guy

When I found out I had been invited to Style in the City I was instantly excited and couldn’t wait.

web1.jpgAn event that involved journalism, celebrities and fashion sounded amazing to me.

The fact that it was being held at the Mailbox, Birmingham,  and being put on by Harvey Nichols and The Sunday Times Style magazine, which I read every week, just sounded ideal.

Deciding what to wear was a dilemma - this was more than just planning an outfit for a Saturday night out.

My friend Stuart and I arrived at the fashion theatre inside the mailbox, gave our name and walked straight in.

Emma Willis, model and TV presenter, hosted the evening with her mischievous and funny humour.

web2.jpgSinger Mr Hudson, who has just finished working with Kanye West, performed an amazing cover version of Champagne Supernova, which was the perfect way to kick the night of.

It was a different world to anything I had experienced before, black draped walls with amazing low lighting.

Small clusters of fashionably dressed men and women - all of an early adult age  - stood sipping champagne and gossiping away.

The show saw lines from Vivienne Westwood, Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Dior, Alexander McQueen, Missoni, y3, diesel, Junk De Luxe and Calvin Klein exhibited.

Half way through, Britain’s Got Talent, semi-finalist, Aidan Davis performed some hip hop moves for the crowd before the clothes kept on flowing, as did the champagne.

The male underwear models were my favourite moment – and not just for the stuff they were modelling.

The vibrant atmosphere, the venue, the fashion, the opulent glamour of the people and the friendly company all combined to create an amazing evening.
