For the second year running, there will be no official Christmas lights switch on in Madeley.
New Christmas lights are being put up around the area this week and it is hoped they will be on by the end of the week.
But like last year, there will be no official switch on celebrations.
Kathy Petty, clerk to Madeley Parish Council, said: “We have got our Christmas lights but because of the regeneration plans we are not having a switch on. We are just going to put them on.
“It is a parish decision because we can’t really get a suitable location to organise a proper switch on.
“This year we have some new lights up. Hopefully they are an improvement to last year.”
David Davies, chairman of Madeley Parish Council, said: “We have always had a Christmas lights switch on in the past but with the regeneration building work it is just impractical. Instead we have done other events.
“In future years we will go back to the lights switch on and we are improving the lights themselves.”
Elsewhere in Telford Dawley Christmas Lantern Parade has been cancelled due to a ack of funding.
Carol Williams, a volunteer organiser, said: “The Christmas Lantern event is cancelled this year.
“Fundraising is an increasingly difficult task and recession has affected traditional public events and had a quelling impact on communities.”
