Brigade’s new recruit

Wellington Girls’ Brigade is proud to welcome their youngest ever recruit - three week old Holllie Brown.

The youngest member of the 1st Wellington Girls Brigade, two week old Hollie Brown, being held by her mum Christina Brown, centre and with other Girl Brigade members from left, sisters Hannah Bailey, nine, Eliza Bailey, six, Tracey Bailey and Emma Copus, front.Telford youngsters, who meet at New Street premises in the town, have welcomed the baby into their group as an honoury member.

Hollie’s mum Christina Brown, from Wellington, is Brigade Lieutenant. And she never missed a single week at the brigade despite her pregnency and then birth on Januray 6.

“Girls’ Brigade is important to me,” she said. “I know that Hollie is going to love it just as much I do.

“I started the Girls Brigade when I was seven and went through all the ranks to become an officer which I have been doing for the last eight years or so.

“I am hoping Hollie will be a Girl Brigade. She’s already involved as I take her there and all the girls loved her. She is an honoury member, a mascot.”

Brigade Captain Tracey Bailey said: “We are thrilled that Christina has brought Hollie to Girls’ Brigade.

“We don’t really accept girls until they are five but in Hollie’s case we were pleased to make an exception - and of course we haven’t asked Hollie for the usual £1 subs.”

The brigade has been running for more than 50 years and currently meets on Tuesday evenings, in term time, from 6pm-8pm at Wellington Methodist Church.

All girls are welcome. For more information visit www.wellingtongirlsb.org.uk or call Tracey on Telford Bailey on 01952 405178.
