DNA face moment of television truth

TV dance contestants from Telford are calling for people to pick up their phones and vote for them as they enter the semi-finals of Sky1’s Got To Dance.

DNA, a crew of eight Telford Hip Hop dancers, will be battling it out against other finalists with a chance to win £100,000 on Sunday from 6pm.

When the last dancer performs their piece on Sunday night the phonelines open to the nation for just five minutes for people to vote for their favourite act.

The phone number will be issued during the show on Sunday night from 6pm.

DNA want to win

Councillor Karen Blundell said the dancers were a “credit to the borough”

TV cameras descended on Telford as the borough mayor sang the praises of the  DNA hiphop crew.

The eight Telford dancers are Tanita Guthrie, 19, James Brown, 18, Ashleigh Griffiths, 19, Jordan Dyal, 18, Kirsten Eagle, 18, Natalie Edwards, 17, Gabrielle Dumas, 17, and Chanelle Green, 16.

They beat thousands of other entries to reach the last 18 of Sky 1’s Got to Dance . TV cameras came to interview the mayor who praised the dancers ability and the opportunites afforded by such shows.

Councillor Blundell said: “It is nice to see a lot of people in Telford & Wrekin are very talented and it is lovely to see young people  who have got to this stage.

“We are very proud of all the young people in Telford & Wrekin and DNA is a credit to our borough and an inspiration to us all.

“It’s through programmes such as ‘Got to Dance’ that DNA has been able to showcase its passion, skill and commitment to dance.  All the semi finalists are very talented, but as there can only be one winner,  we hope that people will vote for DNA to win.”

The group received Youth Opportunity funding through ‘Connection for Youth’ to help pay for services including the use of a professional DJ.

Daniel Bland from Wombridge, a founder member of the youth opportunity panel, said: “ We were delighted to fund the extremely talented dance group.”

A facebook page was set up called Sky 1 Got to Dance Vote DNA.
