Asda bosses have received more than 400 job applications for their brand new home store in Telford – despite work being delayed on the project.
Officials from The Asda Living Store have announced they will not be able to open their new store until April 6 – nearly two weeks later than originally planned – because of recent snowy weather.
They are currently interviewing people from the borough to help fill around 100 job vacancies.
Matt Lewis, apps manager, said: “We have received 400 applications and are still receiving applications.
“Out of all the applications 65 per cent are currently unemployed.”
Mike Doidge , store manager, said: “I am disappointed the open date has been delayed. It would have been nice to open at Easter but a positive point is it gives the opportunity for more time to train our colleagues.”
In the store on the ground floor there will be George clothing for babies, children and adults along with jewellery and accessories. There will also be a baby section including food, nappies and larger baby accessories such as push chairs.
A toiletries section will be on the ground floor too.
On the second floor there will be a home and leisure section with a large 42ft wall displaying all the latest TVs.
The shop will also be selling music, videos, dvds, hifi equipment, toys and books.
There will be a home kitchen range with washing machines, microwaves, furniture, soft furnishings and garden equipment.
And when shoppers are ready to drop they will be able to make use of Caffe Ritazza.
Mr Lewis said: “This is the first living store in Shropshire and will be a good addition to the retail park.”
