A Shifnal florist is calling for local businesses to form a brand new chamber to help bolster trade and promote community spirit in the town.
Jan Park, from Blue Florist on Victoria Road, wants to start a new group in the town for traders to network and support each other.
Mrs Park hopes in the future the group will encourage a ‘shop local’ campaign to make Shifnal a busy and bustling town.
“I have been in business for nearly 10 years and I have seen a lot of apathy,” she said. “I plan to start a Shifnal business chamber.
“This is something brand new. I think we are missing opportunities.
“At the moment I’m putting together a group of people who have got businesses who want to help be part of a working group. I am approaching it from the business to business angle in the first instance.”
The town does have a Chamber of Trade but it is currently on hold.
Peter Paton, treasurer, offered Mrs Park the position of chairman.
He said: “We have a good history and have done a lot of good things in Shifnal.”
But Mrs Park said the business chamber is to be a separate venture.
She said: “I belong to the Chamber and they haven’t had anything for the last five years. The chamber only covers the retail on the High Street and our plan is for all businesses in the area.
“We want to be an active working party.”
“The message is let’s get all the business people using all the businesses,” she said. “Get the businesses working together and supporting one and other.”
