Juniors show the first team how to do it with victories

Once again the Hornets first XV were unable to impose themselves in a match that was there for the taking. Against a limited Handsworth outfit, neither side were able to cross the try line, and the four, one penalty count in favour, of the home side settled the match dominated by tight defence from both teams.

President Dave Mann was left frustrated as the Hornets failed to move the ball wide which would have stretched Handsworth and may well have resulted in a very different score line.

With three home games in a row, the Hornets need to come away withaminimum of four points to ease relegation Fears. Once again it was better news on Sunday as the juniors were spread across the Midlands in games against Willenhall, Wolverhampton, Newcastle, Moseley, Bishops Castle and Ledbury.

The under 12s led the way with a 10 try bonanza against Bishops Castle to run out 50-10 winners. Coach Paul Spendlove was particularly pleased to see Tedwin Broadway and Jack Gittus run in their first competitive tries for the club.

The under 11s continued their impressive run of victories against Staffordshire teams as they defeated a physical  Wolverhampton side 30-15.

Team manager, Mark Hatton, was impressed by the way the players worked for each other. The under 10s held their own in a competitive fixture against Wolverhampton 0-0 and then pulled off a good win against Willenhall 25-0 in a triangular tournament.

Coach Iain Mason was pleased with the continuing improvement of the whole squad and in particular the way the ball was recycled in attack.

Andrea Davies was also delighted with the under 9s who were engaged in a tri - tournament of their own, this time against Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stafford.

Tries for Fionn Adlington and Matthew Fordham and two by Jack Woodrow were the highlights in a narrow 25-20 defeat by Newcastle. Whilst strong defence in defeat to a well drilled Stafford side showed just how far the team has progressed in recent weeks.

Next week the teams are away to Luctonians.
