Boccia is a test of muscle control and accuracy, demanding high-level skill and concentration, and is played on a badminton sized court.

The goal is to throw or bowl a ball so it lands as close as possible to the target ball.

At the end of every round, the competitor whose ball is closest to the target ball, wins.

The Stirchley youngsters were among 60 competitors aged between 11 and 19 years old, and the event was supported by the local Lion Club volunteers.

Strichley Paralympian’s Sandra Davies, sports co-ordinator at The Lord Silkin School, said she was delighted with the result.

She said: “I am pleased with their medals. It was an exciting performance.”

Dennis Hodgkins, regional development manager at the English Federation of Disability Sports, said he was impressed by the standard of play the Telford-based students showed.

“Encouraging young athletes with an interest in or a talent for the sport is one of the top priorities for the future,” he said.

“It is regional competition like this that brings forward our next generation of medal-winning Paralympians.”
