Branching out into the B&B business

Owners of a Shifnal pub are planning to branch out into the B&B business.

The White Hart, on High Street, is owned by Andrew and Jayne Koczy who have submitted a planning application to create four, single story bed and breakfast rooms within their grounds.

Mr Koczy said: “I get a phone call for B&B facilities  every week. With bed and breakfast you could park your car and spend the night.

“I think most places are beginning to diversify. It would create employment and it could bring in the tourists – after all, we are on the edge of the Gorge.

“There are hardly any bed and breakfasts in Shifnal.”

Mr Koczy said if he is wins planning permission he would start to look for people to help build the new accommodation.

The plan is to see a building created adjacent to the Grade II listed pub which Mr Koczy estimates it will cost around £80,000.

The White Hart is famed as a real ale pub and has appeared in the Good Beer Guide and Good Pub Guide.

Councillor Tom Jones said: “Hopefully it will bring in more tourists. I would like to see anything bringing more business into the town and keeping the shop keepers busy.”
