Five star Ketley join Shifnal in quarters

There was no splitting Ketley Bank United and Shifnal United this weekend. Both teams secured safe passages into the quarter finals of the Ron Jones Insight Memorial Cup with 5-1 victories.

And there was a further parallel with both sides having a four goal hero to thank for their success.

William McLeod netted four for Ketley Bank United against Church Stretton, while Dan Hill matched the feat for Shifnal in their game with Wroxeter Rovers.

Shropshire County League Division one promotion- chasers Ketley Bank also had Lewis Evans on the scoresheet as they eased into the last eight.

And Jamie Evans was the other Shifnal scorer as they comfortably saw off the threat of Wroxeter.

But it wasn’t such good news for Wellington Amateurs Reserves who suffered penalty heartache at the hands of Morda United Reserves. A thrilling eight goal tie ended 4-4 after extra time with Danny Hickling (2), Steve Clifford and Tom Anns finding the net for Ams.

But it was Morda who held their nerve in the shoot-out to prevail 4-2 on penalties.

Meanwhile in the First Division Wrockwardine Wood beat Meole Brace 3-0 with two goals from Ollie Wall and one for Justin Worthington. Whitchurch Alport Reserves and Oakengates Athletic played out a scoreless which did little to aid the Alport’s struggles, or Athletic’s outside promotion bid.
