Dream start for boss

Telford Hornets new coach Andy Reynolds got off to a flying start, as the team recorded an excellent 28-0 win against Wednesbury at the weekend.

It took only three minutes for the Hornets to open the scoring when wing Colin Campbell went over in the corner.

This was followed by a penalty in the 18th minute from full back Stephan Hildred as the Hornets led 8-0 at the break.

In the 57th minute Hildred added another penalty and on the hour constant Hornets pressure was rewarded when Pete Jones crossed for a second try. Wednesbury continued to battle hard but the Hornets defence remained solid.

And Telford put the result beyond doubt in final minute when Adam Gittings crossed and Hildred converted.

Hornets host league leaders Leek this weekend.

Unfortunately the boot was firmly on the other foot, as the seconds lost 28-0 to Worcester Wanderers.

While the third XV fared little better as they shipped 24 points to Bridgnorth without

reply.

Despite the defeat third squad skipper Kevin Mottershaw was pleased with the performance.

He said: “The experienced Bridgnorth side were constantly frustrated with a tenacious mix of dogged enthusiasm and youthful exuberance.

“There was some excellent ground eating runs from the backs keen to prove themselves ready for the move to regular first and second team rugby in the future.”

The junior fixtures against Stoke and Shrewsbury were postponed.
