New talks to beat parking problems

Council officials are putting together a plan to beat parking issues,  which could help boost the future of Wellington.

Wellington Town Council clerk, Howard Perkins, was invited to a meeting with members of Telford and Wrekin Council and the police to address parking issues in the borough.

Plans were announced last July for traffic wardens to be pulled and for police to take control of parking enforcement across Telford and Wrekin.

Now officials have met to look at ways parking management can be addressed in the future.

Telford & Wrekin Council leader Andrew Eade said: “We know that inappropriate on-street parking is a concern in a number of our borough towns, and the recent removal of the dedicated traffic wardens for the borough means people are keen to know how parking will be enforced in the future.

“ We hope that these discussions will lead to a long term solution for the borough involving all partners.”

Mr Perkins said Wellington Town Council was also looking at a number of other issues relating to parking.

“The issues we are looking at is the question of pedestrianisation in Wellington which was an issue raised at a town council meeting. It is to be discussed with the borough leaders and officers.

“There are proposals for the borough council to bring in limited parking on the town car parks and we are waiting for future consultation to take place.

“It is important for the future of the town and the regeneration of the town that these issues are looked at as soon as possible and be integrated together.”
