Green-fingered residents in Dawley Bank could be one step closer to getting allotments after lottery officials visited the site this week.
Dawley Bank Horticultural Society are applying to the Big Lottery Fund, and this week two officials arrived in Telford to learn more about Podmore Gardens allotment project. They gave advice on the application process and visited the proposed site for allotments.
Treasurer Carol Williams said: “It was an informative meeting with both advisors giving optimistic feedback.”
The allotment project is being helped by Telford & Wrekin Council to change around two acres of scrubland in Dawley Bank into allotments.
DBHS Secretary Melanie Higginson said: “While there is still some way to go it is reassuring to know that our project is heading in the right direction.
“The allotments will provide an essential public resource covering three parish boundaries and we look forward to the day when this reclaimed land is back in public usage.”
The group thanked Dawley Baptist Church for their hospitality during the the meeting.
Areas earmarked for the allotments include a piece of land behind the Queens Arms, in Bank Road, off Concorde Road.
