New rail terminal left off OS map

A Telford MP has contacted map makers after spotting a “glaring error” on the latest Telford map.

David Wright, MP, has contacted the Ordnance Survey after discovering the railway line from the main line to Donnington, where the new rail freight terminal is located, is marked on the latest edition of the map as having been ‘dismantled’.

Mr Wright said: “I have written to Ordnance Survey asking them how this glaring error came about because the line clearly is not dismantled and, following a range of investments from the Government, Europe and the council, now connects the new rail freight terminal with the national network.”

Mr Wright fears this error could put off businesses locating to Telford as the freight terminal is not marked either.

“I want it put right as soon as possible. Any companies looking to locate to Telford, or existing companies looking to use the rail freight terminal, would take one look at the local map and think it didn’t exist.”

A spokesperson for the Ordnance Survey map said: “We make 5,000 changes to our maps every day. Although we pride ourselves on getting a huge proportion right mistakes do happen.

“We ask people to get in touch and let us know so we can get it updated.”
