Parks, woodlands and local green places are set for upgrades after officials received £309,248 grant funding.
Severn Gorge Countryside Trust are to bring access improvements to around 16 green areas in Telford later this year thanks to a three year funding programme.
The project is called Telford Access to Nature (TA2N) and Cadi Price, TA2N partnership officer, said plans to see new benches, steps and wildlife management could be implemented later this year.
“It will be a big contract. Putting in seating, steps and larger kissing gates. Later on there will be more things like signage, more interpretation and leaflets about the area.”
Severn Gorge Countryside Trust are working in partnership with Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Green Wood Centre, PCT Green Gym and Telford & Wrekin Council.
The 16 sites include Apley Woods, Granville Country Park, Heath Hill, Leegomery Woods and Randlay Park.
Sean Thomas, chairman of Friends of Apley Wood, said: “It is a fantastic opportunity for Shropshire as a whole and it is brilliant for Apley. Part of the bid is for a new gate to give full disabled access to Apley Woods.”
The money has been awarded by Natural England for the Access to Nature programme.Peter Loat, Access to Nature adviser, said “As a result of Access to Nature grants, people of all ages and backgrounds have been given an opportunity to experience nature at first hand and learn new skills.”
