Warm Wellington welcome

sd3524838tj21sumf-8.jpgCrowds flocked to Wellington last weekend to enjoy the town’s midsummer fair.

The event was organised by local arts and heritage group Wellington H2A, which laid on street entertainment from Jack Green the Jester and friends, Wynndebagge the medieval musician, the Stafford Morris Dancers and Wrekin Forest Mummers.

Outside the parish church there was music from Odd Socks Folk Band, Wellington Brass Band and Wrekin View School Choir, providing entertainment for the visitors as they enjoyed tea and cakes, browsed the 40 market stalls and viewed a local history exhibition in the church.

And the crowds lined the streets at 1pm when a Georgian-costumed procession made its way around the centre of the town, re-enacting the Jubilee Processions first recorded in the town in 1773.

Organiser Rob Francis said: “The town council, the market company, shops, schools, church groups and an army of volunteers and performers all made this a brilliant day for the town, and proved that Wellington can be a welcoming, buzzing, prospering place.”
