Telford trio on murder charge

sd3537269la2tip-7.jpgThree people appeared in court yesterday afternoon accused of the murder of Telford father-of-three Stephen Round.

James Haigh, 30, and Melissa Parkes, 21, both of Church Street, St Georges, Telford, and 27-year-old Zena Tinsley, of Boulton Grange, Randlay, Telford, all appeared before Telford Magistrates Court accused of murdering Mr Round between June 27 and July 2.

The 43-year-old’s body was found at Granville landfill site at Redhill, Telford, on Friday and the three accused were arrested on Saturday.

In court yesterday, they spoke only to confirm their names and addresses and to confirm they understood the allegation during the six minute hearing.

They were remanded in custody to appear before Shrewsbury Crown Court on Friday.

Meanwhile, Mr Round’s family this week described him as a “happy, caring person with a cheery smile”.

Mr Round’s parents David Round and Ann Mohan, who brought up their family in Brookside, said the whole family had been left devastated. They said his partner, Tracey, and children, Adam, 22, Shane, 17, and Jack, six, along with his three brothers and two sisters had been left heartbroken.

In a family statement, Mrs Mohan and Mr Round said: “Stephen was the eldest of our six children – a beautiful kind, caring man.

“We, along with Stephen’s brothers David, Jason and Alan and sister’s Debbie and Tina have been left devastated by this evil crime.

“Stephen was a happy, caring person with a cheery smile and always a kind word.”

The family added: “We would also like to express our thanks to all the kind family and friends who have shown their support and deep sadness at our son’s murder.

“But this has shown us what we already knew – just how loved our wonderful Stephen was.”

The Round family also wished to thank their police liaison officers and the team of more than 50 officers working on the case for their “amazing and on-going support throughout this nightmare”.

A post-mortem examinationrevealed Mr Round suffered head and neck injuries and an inquest will be opened.
