A team of cheerleaders from across Telford is celebrating this week after bringing home a haul of 10 trophies from a national competition in Nottingham.
The Sharon Ann Cheer and Dance Academy, which has members from across the borough and from the Wolverhampton area, brought back the collection of first, second and third place prizes after competing in the ICC Summer Jam competition, which attracted entries from across the UK.
Sharon Fowler, who coaches the team, said she was very proud of how far they had come since starting up three years ago.
“We’re getting better and better each year. The committment of the girls is amazing. This was quite an amazing result,” she said.
“This was our fifth competition of the year and we compete in age groups, with four cheer teams and four dance teams.
“And we’re already in training for our next competition, which is in Chester on October 23-24, then the final one of this year will be at Crystal Palace in November.
“Next Easter we’re taking the cheerleaders over to train in the US at a camp in Florida. We’ve been before and brought back so much technique and experience – as well as visiting Disneyworld – that they’re really looking forward to going back.”
The group holds training sessions for all abilities, including complete beginners, in Wrockwardine Wood on Wednesday evenings. To find out more about the sessions contact Sharon on 07711 292728.
