A Telford couple will be cycling to Porthmadog on Saturday to raise £2,000 for a trust set up in memory of their 11-year-old daughter who died of a brain haemorrhage while on holiday in North Wales.
Tristan and Rachel Pitt from Telford lost their daughter Layla two years ago this month, and have since set up the Layla Jane Pitt Remembrance Trust.
The Trust offers support to other families dealing with the loss of a child and also supports local children in performing arts – something which was a huge part of talented Layla’s life.
And this weekend the couple will be joined by a group 15 friends, family and colleagues from Greenhous, where Tristan works in Telford, for the 90-mile bike ride from Telford to Porthmadog.
The sponsored cyclists will travel up and over the challenging Berwyn Mountains, climbing more than 800 metres above sea level, and then back down again into the coastal town at around 4pm, ending their bike ride at Haulfryn Cardigan View Holiday Park in Porthmadog.
Tristan said: “The cycle route that we’ve chosen is very poignant for us as our daughter tragically passed away from a sudden brain haemorrhage whilst we were on holiday in Porthmadog two years ago.
“We are thrilled that so many colleagues, friends and family have already signed up for our inaugural ride.
“This is something that we hope to make an annual event, and we would be extremely grateful if anyone can offer sponsorship for our cyclists or provide support for the event in terms of equipment or refreshments for the cyclists.”
Rachel said: “Layla had a real passion for performing arts, and we want to ensure that her memory lives on through the Layla Jane Pitt Remembrance Trust.”
