Love in the air at Telford festival

sd3590573sept10-park.jpgNearly 6,000 music fans flocked to Telford Town Park this weekend to be entertained by a spectacular array of local musical talent as this year’s Park LiveFestival proved a major hit.

Crowds basked in the sun as bands took to the stage led by Weatherbird, the winner of a Beacon Radio vote to select the opening act.

And romance was in the air for one couple, with Bob Nicolas successfully proposing to Fiona Johns on stage during the event.

The event was hosted by Beacon FM’s Big Drive Home presenter James Carpenter and the line-up included Arcade Parade, Façade, The Yipes, Follow The Fallen, Long Day Gone, Madison and headliners Envy Of The State.

Visitors during the afternoon enjoyed the free activities laid on including the design your own Park Live t-shirt, face painting, henna tattoos and a giant piece of public art.

As well as the bands, entertainment was provided by clowns Cheko and Sparky, as well as Handy Andy with his juggling, balloon modelling, stilt walking and circus skills.

The event was organised by Telford & Wrekin Council. Councillor Stephen Bentley, cabinet member for active lifestyles, said: “Park Live offers an exciting line up of bands and activities for all the family.

“We are hoping to build on the success of last year’s Park Live and to attract regular park visitors, picnickers and families as well as people specifically there for the music.

“This is the latest major summer event in the Town Park and is all part of the council’s drive to encourage people to do more, enjoy more and feel better.”
