A second hand store in Shifnal which started “almost by accident” is now helping dozens of members of the local community, from pensioners to primary school children.
Lea Beven, who manages Preloved Treasure, opposite the library in Shifnal, said the store opened eight weeks ago to raise some money for the town’s drama club.
“It was almost an accident that it started,” she said. “I run Lion Castle estate agent and it’s a massive shop but there are only two of us working there.
“I moved us over to one side and was raising a bit of money for the drama club, which I’m a member of, and then someone asked me if we could raise some for the football club as well and it took off from there.
“It’s doing really well at the moment. We’ve raised money for the drama club Shifnal Stars. We’re also raising money for a craft group for the over 50s. We’re working with the Beavers as well, who’ve just restarted again.
“We’ve had requests from other groups in Shifnal and people are always bringing items in to sell. At the moment we’ve got all sorts of things in. We’ve even got some medieval costumes in at the moment. It’s a bit like a charity shop, but it’s for lots of local causes.”
Lea said in order for the shop to carry on, she needed more people to help sort through the donations and staff the shop.
“I’m still running the estate agent so I could do with more people coming forward to volunteer to help,” she said.
Preloved Treasures is open 10am-4pm. To volunteer to help drop into the shop and speak to Lea.
